Horace Mann donates more than $2,500 to help complete DonorsChoose.org projects

including a project at a Glendale school

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 17, 2014) –The Horace Mann Companies donated more than $2,500 to help complete DonorsChoose.org projects at the National Association of Elementary School Principals in Memphis, Tennessee last week. Eleven teachers will soon have new supplies for their classrooms now that their projects are fully funded. Horace Mann, an insurance company Founded by Educators for Educators®, has donated more than $2 million dollars to DonorsChoose.org projects since partnering with the website in 2011. DonorsChoose.org is a website connecting teachers to donors.

The projects funded include rocket bulk pack, books, magnetic letters, cubes, Leap Frog Reading and Writing tools, Common Core math and problem solving journals, laminating sheets, activity kits, an iPad mini and a carpet. The supplies requested will enhance learning and are supplies teachers may not be able to get through their regular school budgets.

Karen Dicker is a music teacher at Bellair Elementary in Glendale, Arizona. She requested a metallophone and Orff mallets in her project post. “I can only imagine how excited my students will be to hear instruments that can provide something above and beyond the beat! My students will be able to explore and create with new sounds. They will increase their own responsibility by being charged with a whole new set of treasures to care for.”

“These donations highlight our dedication to the whole school.  We want to support superintendents, administrators, principals, teachers and students, and our partnership with DonorsChoose.org allows us to do that,” says Horace Mann’s Assistant Vice President of Educator Alliance Marlene Muncy.

We always appreciate your input and feedback. We have created a

unique email address for feedback: bellairfeedback @ gmail.com.

We hope you will use it to send us your thoughts and ideas.

Please remember…

When dropping off or picking up students, you must use the east parking lot.  We will provide detailed procedures.  Following these procedures helps us keep all students safe and orderly which is very important to us.  If you are not sure of the procedures, please do not hesitate to ask one of our staff members.

Students may enter the campus at 8:30 each morning. If they are eating breakfast, they may go to the cafeteria starting at 8:20.  Please do not leave students unattended before those times as we do not have supervision for them.  We want to ensure that all students have a positive and safe start to their day.

Other than the morning of the 1st day of school, all visitors to the campus must sign in at the front office. We welcome parents who wish to have lunch in the cafeteria.  We welcome classroom volunteers.  If you wish to visit with your child’s teacher and the classroom, please remember to schedule a time with the teacher.

The school day is very important so we try to protect our academic time.  To help us with this, we ask that you help your child be on time for school each day and remain until the final bell.  We know that sometimes there are appointments that must happen during the day.  Please note that we will not call a student out of class at 3:15 or later.
