Dear Gavilan Peak Families,
My name is Chad Segersten and I will serve as the New Principal at Gavilan Peak. I’m just thrilled to take over the reins from Dr. Wong who did such a great job during her tenure here.
Professionally, I have served in various roles in education including as a kindergarten, fourth grade and fifth grade teacher and then into administration as a school leader and then at the district as the Math & Science Director. Currently I serve as the Director of Instructional Technology.
On a personal level I am married for almost 18 years and have four wonderful children; Rylee 14, Emma 11, Coleton 8 and Casen 1. My children attend Deer Valley schools and I have seen what the district offers first-hand to children.
As I have been finishing up in my current district and working on visiting Gavilan Peak as much as possible, I have had time to meet teachers, students, support staff and a few parents and I have really enjoyed getting a glimpse of what Gavilan Peak is all about. I look forward to meeting those I have not been able to connect with soon.
First off, (I probably don’t have to tell you this) Gavilan Peak is a truly special place! It is certainly a student-centered campus focused on student success. When offered the position the first thing I thought of is would I send my own children to this school and the answer was a resounding yes. The focus on learning and leadership coupled with the unique language program is what school should be about - preparing children for a global economy. I have been so impressed! I feel very lucky to have been brought here!
My official start is in July; however, I will be around all summer. During my first few weeks (and truly months) here I will continue to listen, observe and meet with people to ensure we continue to focus on what has worked well. Additionally we will look at what things we can continue to grow that will improve and provide those high levels of learning at all times, in particular as we look towards Common Core standards. I am looking forward to partnering with staff, parents and students to continue to drive Gavilan Peak through a community approach. We can forge ahead and build upon the success that is so obvious around here!
Finally, I would like to thank you in advance for doing the hardest job in the world and that is as a parent. I look forward to our partnership in ensuring your children are ready for lifelong success.
