M & O Override Election Passes

election Results

All ballots from Tuesday's Election haven now been counted. The DVUSD M&O Override has passed. Below is a message from Superintendent Dr. James R. Veitenheimer:

We are extremely thankful to the voters in our community for their continued support and commitment to the students of Deer Valley.

We are pleased that voters understood the academic need for this funding, which will allow DVUSD to maintain class sizes, attract and retain teachers and staff, continue support for counselors and nurses, provide a dedicated funding source for free full-day kindergarten and transportation, and support programs like fine arts, Physical Education, gifted services, Language Immersion, International Baccalaureate, and more.

This yes vote will allow Deer Valley Unified School District to continue our Mission: to provide extraordinary educational opportunities to every learner.

Dr. Price-Barry Dear Current and Potential Parents of West Wing School,

Welcome to our West Wing website. This website has been designed to provide you with as much comprehensive information about our school as possible. Being the principal of this “A” rated school (by the Arizona Department of Education), is the best job in the world!!!

I am thrilled to be part of a school that employs teachers who are passionate and provide innovative and effective instruction to their students. We have several innovative programs at West Wing School and strive to make this school the best in the state!

Some of the programs that we offer, are different from other schools in the area:

West Wing offers a unique gifted model. This unique instructional model allows students to receive gifted services ALL DAY LONG! Over 57% of our teachers have earned either a full gifted endorsement or are in the process of obtaining it. We have a dedicated Gifted Instructional Coach, Shelly Schubert who works directly with teachers to support them in providing the instructional rigor, necessary to move your child's intellectual and academic skills to another level.

West Wing offers archery as part of the Physical Education Department in the middle school. The archery program is the only one in the district and the only one in the area. This is an engaging and active class that teaches students archery skills in a safe and controlled environment. As a former archery competitor in college, I would never have had the opportunity to participate in this unique sport, without having taken a similar class. It is beyond fun and exciting! Also check out our bowling classes, in PE....

Our music and band programs are incredibly engaging and provide students with a "hands on" opportunity to experience music at all levels. Every student will be provided instruction on how to read music. This program requires commitment from ALL. Just talk to any West Wing student about their music program and they will tell you, it's the best in the world!

West Wing has an Art Program that is award winning! Students are taught broad types of visual arts including ceramics, sculpture, fiber art, painting and drawing. (All of these materials are provided for FREE as part of our arts program) We are the #1 art program in the state of Arizona on Artsonia (the world's largest online kids art museum). The beauty of our Art Program is that ALL students are exposed to a world of art, art history and are taught techniques by one of the finest art teachers in the world! Come observe the incredible art teaching and projects that children are creating at West Wing School.

We deliver instruction to your child based on his/her individual skill level. In grades, K-4, we provide students a 20-30 minute uninterrupted instructional period (flex grouping) to focus directly on your child's skill level. Some of our students have come from various schools; when students have experienced a varied educational school background, it can create educational holes. Whether your child is exceptionally bright or an average learner, educational holes can be detrimental to any child's educational future. At West Wing, we make a strong commitment to filling those academic holes. In grades 5-8, we provide a departmentalized approach to educating your child. We provide comprehensive assessments at the start of each year in ALL grade levels and determine EXACTLY where your child's skill level is and what intervention or advanced programming they may need.

The beauty of what we do at West Wing School is to provide our students, not only with a state of art and rigorous education, but we provide an educational experience for the whole child! If you are looking for a well-rounded experience for your child that provides your child with it ALL! West Wing School is your school.

Please feel free to come and tour our school and get a close up view of the extraordinary educational opportunity that children are experiencing at West Wing School. Please feel free to contact me, if you need additional information about our school.

Educationally Yours,
Dr. Price-Barry

  • Please make sure you are using the parent drop off/pick up loop at the school when dropping off or picking up your student.  Community members have notified the school of an increase in parents parking on residential streets, especially after school.  Specifically, there are concerns over cars parked at 85th Dr. and W Maya Dr., and 84th Dr. and W. Maya Dr.   Please plan on meeting your child at the school drop off and pick-up zones.
