Fall 2016 Girls on the Run Info
Unless it’s a full release day or announced otherwise, practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays rain or shine from 3:45-5:15 in Mrs. Englerth’s classroom - #304 (kindergarten wing) and in outside locations on the campus. Please see the attached calendar for practice dates. We will practice for 10 weeks, conditioning our hearts, minds, and bodies that will conclude with an exciting 5K on Saturday, Nov. 19! Your child does not need to sign up for the 5K. The registration fee includes the entry to the run. Also, please be advised that due to the sensitivity of the topics discussed and for the privacy and comfort of each girl, ONLY PARTICIPANTS and COACHES are allowed at practices.
Needed for Practice:
At each practice, girls should be dressed in athletic clothing and wear appropriate running shoes. If she does not come to school dressed for practice she can change in the restroom at the end of the school day and should be ready for practice in room 304 at 3:45. Your daughter also needs to bring a full water bottle with her name clearly labeled on it. A snack will be provided at each meeting.
Towel – for ground exercises and activities
Snack – as an alternative to the one provided
Pick Up Location:
Practice ends at 5:15, at which time you can pick-up your daughter outside the front entrance of the school. All girls are expected to be picked up no later than 5:25
Due to the importance of group dynamics and the experiential learning process of the Girls on the Run curriculum, girls who are absent for more than four (4) practices during one season will no longer be eligible to participate in Girls on the Run. It is critically important to the efficacy of the girls' program experience that they participate in both sessions each week.
If your daughter will be absent from a practice, please email Linda.OBerry@dvusd.org.
On the morning of Nov. 19 in downtown Phoenix all girls will participate in a 5K run with a Running Buddy or Buddies. A Running Buddy is a parent, teacher, relative, volunteer, or coach who will run with the girls during their 5k and provide positive reinforcement along the way. It means running or walking at her pace and encouraging her to do her best, but also recognizing and respecting her limits. Running Buddies must be:
16 years old or older
Register and pay the fee for the 5k
Able to run/jog a 5k
With the approval of Parents/Guardians, girls are expected to ask a responsible adult to be their Running Buddy. A volunteer Running Buddy can be provided if needed. Please let us know by Oct. 31 if you need this option. Running Buddies will also have an opportunity to run in our practice 5k on Nov. 2 – more details later.
Running Buddies must register for the Girls on the Run 5k at gotrmc.org/gotr5k. During the registration he or she will be able to indicate his or her girl partner.
