The Deer Valley Unified School District’s Governing Board unanimously called for a Capital Override for the November ballot. If passed, the Capital Override allows the district to budget for and receive $7.5 million in funds per year for seven years for DVUSD students. It would be a continuation of a Capital Override voters approved in 2005, which expires at the end of the next school year. The projected cost for the average residential property owner in 2013-14 would be $55.45 per year. The dollar amount would be allocated as follows:
Every Deer Valley student, school, family and community member will benefit from the investments made under the Capital Override. No Capital Override funds are spent on teachers, support staff or administration and operating costs. If the override fails, Deer Valley will lose $52.5 million from its budget over the next seven years. The district will have to forego purchases such as textbooks, new technology, copiers and school busses which would likely mean additional reductions to the Maintenance and Operations budget (general operating budget). |
