Meet Mr. Backus
Dear DVMS Community,
LEADERSHIP: That has become the focus of Deer Valley Middle School. It has become our goal to teach leadership skills that impact the choices and efforts our students make towards their academics, college/job training, careers, along with helping them build stronger families and strengthen the community around them. This is why we have developed classes and taught concepts that teach leadership to our students. Our Exploratory classes include Personal Finance, Public Speaking, and Leadership. We also offer AVID classes, a two year program that mentors our students towards "Advancement Via Individual Determination". We are expanding our Careers class and offering more career choices for students to experience. We have also brought in Boys Town Leadership skills as a way to teach our students the social skills that will help them be successful throughout their lives.
It is our goal to partner with parents and families as we go forward as a school. Join us as we create opportunities for open discussions about education, current issues and how they affect our students. Together, we can find solutions that benefit our kids and strengthen our community and nation.
Sincerely,
Scott Backus
Principal
