- Meet the Principal of Mountain Shadows!

Dear Coyote Families,
We are so excited to be welcoming our new and returning students to Mountain Shadows Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year. Our theme this year is “Share the Good News”. You may be wondering what the good news is… the news is that our students and staff are thriving in leadership and learning, and we’re going to be sharing with you throughout the school year.As a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, we believe in equipping our students with the tools necessary to thrive in the 21st century. Tools such as the 7 Habits help our students by being proactive, seeking information, setting goals, working with others, etc. These skills help our students become successful leaders of their own learning, both in the classroom and out. This year our focus is on setting lead measures that move us toward reaching our goals and holding ourselves accountable. We support the genius in each student!
The Mountain Shadows staff continues to support our continuous improvement process of increasing student achievement. This year, we will continue to support individualize reading instruction as well as emphasizing conceptual learning in math. Students will continue to establish goals and track their own growth data. Frequent conversations with students about learning will be happening throughout the campus.
As always, safety is priority. Please set good examples by following the drop-off and pick-up procedures. Taking the extra precaution of using the crosswalk and waiting patiently in the carline is sometimes more timely, but essential for keeping our children safe. As a reminder, students may not be on campus before 8:30 AM unless they are coming for breakfast. The cafeteria opens at 8:15 AM however, certified staff are not on duty until 8:30 AM. Additionally, please only use the north “lollipop” parking lot during the school day for office-related items. This parking lot is for drop-off/pick-up of Preschool Students only. Students in K-6th grades may use the sidewalk but are not allowed to be dropped off or picked up in this lot. Your support is greatly appreciated!
I am thrilled to be leading a campus that employs staff who are passionate and provide innovative and effective instruction to students. We strive to guide and facilitate learning throughout the school day, so please make sure your child/ren are at school each day and for the entire instructional day. We also invite you to work together in partnership with us to create a positive learning environment, which directly impacts student achievement. Our goal is to keep you informed so that you can be directly involved in your children’s education.
I am eager to work with you during the 2022-2023 school year and share all of the wonderful opportunities that Mountain Shadows has available for your child. Have a great year!
Educationally yours,
Dr. Gilbert
