Mrs. Vandenboom --- Mrs. V.

Welcome, Titan Voyagers!

From a young age, I was exposed to many different cultures and situations that created a love of diversity. I received my BA at CSU Sacramento and taught in Northern California for five years in lower elementary grades and one year of High School before making AZ my home. In 2007, I began my employment with DVUSD. During that time, I have taught first grade, ELL, third grade, fifth grade, and now, I find myself continuing my journey in middle school teaching 6th grade!

My outlook on education has been created from my own personal learning experiences.  Some memories were amazing and some difficult. I have discovered that everyone is teachable and we all receive and understand information differently.  This is where my love for presenting all of it begins and my students' opportunity to grow starts. I strive to make learning fun and self-gratifying. Together we will be lifelong learners that are hungry for more, open to new approaches, and teachable.  As a TEAM, (together, everyone, achieves more) we will embark on this VOYAGE of learning and growing.  I am looking forward to giving your child the desire to be challenged, take risks, learn from their mistakes, laugh, make friends, and be prepared for their own VOYAGE and educational future. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Covering our AZ Career and College Ready Standards will drive our assignments. We will read fiction and non-fiction materials and gain understanding through our reading assignments and social studies expectations.

We will be using Canvas as our LMS. Want more information about Canvas? Use the link to access the DVUSD website on Canvas.Canvas Information

Messages will be returned within 24 hours during the week and may not be returned until the next school day over the weekend.

In addition to standards and outcomes, we will have two main goals this year. While these will not be specific lessons, they will be embedded in our lessons throughout the course of this year. If students can look at sources, think critically, and learn about the successes and failures of past civilizations, not only will it help them in this class, it will help them on the path to becoming productive citizens.

  1. Learn How to Think, Not What to Think
  2. Learn About the Past to Learn From the Past.
