• I am providing this parent information guide so that you and your child will have a better understanding of my goals and expectations.
My teaching philosophy is one of heavy emphasis on the basics: reading, math, spelling, phonics, language usage and writing within a structured environment. I expect much from my students including appropriate behavior and good work habits. I expect work to be completed within the assigned time. If class work is not completed at school, it will be considered homework and due on the following school day.  Accuracy is expected, however, a child may be required to correct a certain portion of errors to ensure mastery of the skill. Neatness is expected on every written assignment. My goal is to grow your child academically and socially in the next nine months in a positive classroom environment.

CHARACTER COUNTS:   LIFESKILLS are emphasized in my class every day.

GENERAL SCHOOL INFORMATION:  School begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:30. The gates will not open until 8:30, so please do not send your child early. It is important to check the district calendar for scheduled early release days. Students will be dismissed at 12:05 on early release days.

ABSENCE PROCEDURE:  If your child is absent, please contact the school office 623- 376-4390. If you would like to request homework, please call and leave me a message at 623-376-4383 or you can email me. I'll get back to you as soon as I can and arrange for your child’s homework to be picked up. Thanks for your cooperation. Students are allowed the equal number of absent days to complete missed work for full credit.

LUNCH:  It is a good idea to put money on your child's account so your child doesn't worry about losing lunch money. Should your child forget lunch money, the cafeteria will be able to loan the money for that day. Please replace the loaned money as soon as possible. Thanks. Lunch boxes should have your child's name and room number visible on the outside. We will have a carrying box for our classroom lunch boxes. Breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $2.80.

BIRTHDAYS:  It is acceptable to send in a birthday treat on your child's birthday. Please contact me in advance. Treats may be left in the office. Please mark your child's name and room number on the container. Thank you for your cooperation.

HOMEWORK:  Study for quizzes and tests. PRACTICE what you learning. Generally, homework should take 20-30 minutes each night, Monday through Thursday. It would be terrific if you could designate time for quiet reading each night as well. I will be sending home weekly finished work on Fridays. I encourage you to look through your child's folder every Friday. Reviewing finished papers is one way to increase understanding and reinforce the importance of school. Students will be encouraged to place any work that needs to be finished for the next day in the return to school side of the daily homework folder.  The HOMEWORK FOLDER will come home every day and brought back to school every morning. If a student does not have his/her homework, he/she will not be eligible for a RUFF award that week. RUFF awards are given on Fridays for weekly work being turned in on time. Students earning RUFF awards are allowed 15 minutes of free time on the computer. Students must have their name on the work to earn a RUFF award.
