New River Community:
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the new principal at New River Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year. I feel honored to serve the New River community by collaborating with parents, teachers and staff in providing a safe learning environment where all students can thrive through purposeful learning opportunities.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education- Special Education and a master’s degree in Elementary Education with a reading focus from Northern Arizona University. Later, I became a Sun Devil while earning my doctorate at ASU in Educational Leadership. As part of my doctoral program, I had the opportunity to study in Argentina and Mexico. Next year will mark my twenty-fifth year serving as an educator all in the Deer Valley Unified School District. My experience includes four years of experience as an assistant principal, five years of instructional coaching and fifteen years teaching in various capacities. My past teaching experiences include special education, reading specialist and kindergarten teacher.
I have three grown children. My two boys are in the workforce and my daughter has one more semester at ASU. I have an adventurous spirit as I enjoy traveling, yoga and spending time in nature with my dog. Some of my adventures include hiking the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon and the Inca trail in Peru. I even enjoyed a motorcycle ride to Monument Valley.
My personal educational philosophy aligns with New River Elementary School’s mission statement “To provide interdisciplinary, collaborative STEM experiences that foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.” As principal of New River Elementary School, I would continue to support and strengthen these practices. In addition, I will strive to ensure student safety by supporting the positive behavior interventions and supports that are in place at New River Elementary School as well at the school wide implementation of All Things EQ.
As the principal at New River Elementary School my goal would be to honor the work and traditions in the school’s history and move forward to support and strengthen the school’s vision and mission. I look forward to partnering with students, families and community members to foster a school culture of challenging and diverse learning experiences ensuring all students are successful academically, feel cared for and enjoy coming to school.
