Federal Meal Assistance Program

    EZ Meal App

What is the Meal Assistance Program?
DVUSD participates in the federal National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. The program allows DVUSD to offer both breakfast and lunch meals at discounted prices for those students who qualify under the programs income guidelines.
How do I know if my child qualifies for the program?

To determine whether your child/children are eligible for discounted meal pricing, you must complete a Free and Reduced Price School Meals Household Application. Applications become available online 30 days before the start of the school year (see below or visit www.EZMealApp.com). Once school has started, the application is also available in the school cafeteria, your schools front office or at the Food & Nutrition Department office. A paper application will also be sent home with your student in the first week of school.

Applications are processed within 10 days of receipt. A notification letter will be sent to the address listed on the application to inform you of your child/children’s eligibility status once eligibility has been determined.

My child/children qualified for the program last year, do I need to complete a new application?

Yes. Students who participated in the Meal Assistance program last school year must reapply each school year. Students who attended DVUSD during the last school year are eligible for the same benefits they were eligible for at the end of last school year for the first 30 days of the new school year. If no new application is submitted in the first 30 days of school, the child/children will automatically become paying students. NOTE: Due to COVID-19, the USDA has provided relief for families by making school meals FREE to all students 18 year and younger for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Students who participated in the meal assistance program in the 2019-2020 school year will be eligible for the same benefits the first 30 days of the 2021-2022 school year only. All students must submit a new application by September 14, 2021 to continue receiving benefits, if eligible. If a new application is not received by September 14, 2021 students will pay the full meal price starting September 15, 2021.
If you are new to DVUSD your eligibility from your previous school does not carry over.  Families are responsible for any charges accrued on a students account until an approved application is on file.

    When is the application due?

For the 2021-2022 school year the deadline for re-applications is September 14, 2021. If no re-application is received by September 14th your student(s) will pay the full meal price starting September 15, 2021 until an application is received. While school meals are free to all for students 28 and younger this school year, additional funding for your school is tied to the completion of the application.  It is highly encouraged to still fill one out for the 2020-2021 school year.

If you do not qualify for the Meal Assistance Program now, an applications can be submitted any time throughout the school year. For example, if there has been a change in your family circumstances (i.e. job loss, change in living arrangements, etc.) your child/children may become eligible if your income drops below the income limits.
Where do I submit my application?
Applications can be submitted online via http://www.EzMealApp.com. Completed paper applications can be mailed or dropped off at the Food & Nutrition Department, located at 21421 N. 21st Ave., Building 2, Phoenix, AZ 85027. Paper applications can also be hand delivered to the school’s cafeteria manager. For fastest processing please return applications to the cafeteria directly. Returning them to the classroom can result in a delay of processing.
