My name is Ms. Sowers, and I am your 1st Grade Teacher. I am so excited that you will be in my class this year! We are going to have lots of fun reading, learning, exploring, and creating new things together. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a licensed professional counselor as well as being a certified masters level teacher. I practiced counseling for 10 years, performing home-based counseling for children and families as well as being the program manager and counselor in a group home for youth. This is my 25th year of teaching. I have taught 6th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st grades. First Grade is my all-time favorite grade! I am thrilled to be a Sidewinder at Greenbrier Elementary School!
I have three children, Jason, Tiffany, and Brittany and seven grandchildren. My grandkids call me Nana. My son Jason is an architect, and lives here in Phoenix with his wife Arian and their 2 children Cora Kimberly 3, Westley 1, and their two dogs "Nash" and "Charlie". Cora loves books and princess clothes, Westley loves his sister and likes to do whatever Daddy is doing! Tiffany lived in London for about 5 years and now lives in Portland, with her husband, Nico, who is French and speaks 4 different languages. They love to travel and visit friends and family both in Europe and the United States. Tiffany and Nico have a new baby girl, Eloise Rose. Brittany is a stay at home mom who currently lives in Germany, with her husband, Ryan. She loves to bake, sew, build furniture and create amazing, detailed projects. I think we should display her work in a museum, but for now, it is all cherished at home by the family. Ryan is a Ranger in the Army Special Forces. He is a HALO instructor who teaches soldiers to jump out of airplanes. Brittany and Ryan have four boys now: Bradlee 12, , Taylor 8, Matthew 6 and a new baby Jack. Bradlee is in sixth grade this year, and he is a fantastic big brother. He loves football, swimming, Legos, magic, and reading Harry Potter books! Taylor is in third grade this year. Taylor loves Science and Legos, as well as Star Wars and many superheroes. Matthew is in first grade this year. He loves dogs, swimming and playing Legos with his older brothers. Baby Jack was born at only 31 weeks, but he is growing stronger every day.
Some of my hobbies include traveling, dancing, singing, yoga, baking, gardening, reading, SUNS games, and live concerts or theater performances. I enjoy drinking coffee, sitting on my patio and watching the hummingbirds. (I also keep a lookout for squirrels, pack rats, rabbits and raccoons who like to snack in my garden.)
I am anxious to meet you and learn all about the things you are interested in. I know that we will have a great year!
