READ, READ, READ- The greatest gift you can give your child is the gift of reading.
Practice writing - your child needs to be able to write their first name with one capital and the rest lower case letters. Practice holding the pencil correctly too.
Practice the letter sounds and brainstorm things that begin with the various sounds.
Rhyming is an important skill. Say words like "bike, hat or boat" and have your child say words that rhyme or make up riddles that having a predictable rhyming word as the answer- "That bird can fly really high way up in the ? (sky)
Count things in the grocery store or in the pantry- get out small pieces of candy, marshmallows or other small items and separate them into groups of 5's or 10's and try to count them.
Empty out your change jar and have your child sort the coins. Next talk about the names of the coins and how much they are worth. Make various lines of patterns with the coins- ABABABAB or ABBA, ABBA, ABBA etc.
Sit with your child and READ a good book.
