  • Welcome to Sixth Grade at Sonoran Foothills!

Our combined philosophies of teaching will provide our sixth graders with many different opportunities to learn and grow as individual students, to understand the importance of working collaboratively, and to become lifelong learners.

The sixth grade curriculum will be based on the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards.  These standards are the foundation of the AZMerit test given in April.  Students will also complete quarterly district assessments in all subjects along with the SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory).

    ELA OVERVIEW

During our 75 minute ELA block, we will use the newly adopted Collections program.  Students will be exposed to a variety of genres, including several Newberry awarded novels. We will also work on vocabulary, writing, grammar, and spelling, as well as speaking and listening skills.  Students should be reading nightly for 20 minutes. Students will have many opportunities to improve their writing ranging from poetry to five paragraph essays.
