• Summer 2018

Dear Second Grade Students and families,

Welcome to second grade at Sierra Verde! I am so excited for the year to begin and to meet all of you. My name is Dena Hamblen and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Our cozy classroom is located in room 406, in the Caring Cove Pod.

Friday August 3rd is Meet the Teacher Night from 2:00-4:00. Meet the teacher is a great time to bring your school supplies and get your desk organized. This will help us be ready to learn on Tuesday August 7th when school officially begins.

This year we will use the college and career readiness standards to guide our learning journey through reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We will integrate our themes of study to maximize our learning. I have high expectations for my students and require a “can do” attitude!

The key to your child’s success is for school and home to work together as partners. I welcome you to be an active participant in our classroom through communication, volunteering, and supporting your child’s learning at home. Please plan to attend our Curriculum Night on August 20th from 5:00-5:45 for important classroom information.

One important piece of information you need to know is safety comes first at SV. One way we support this is to enforce a nut free environment in every classroom. Your child is welcome to eat these items in the cafeteria for lunch. Children with allergies can sit at the nut free table. All purchased hot lunches are nut free!

I am confident this will be a great year. In our classroom character really counts! We strive to be the best we can be by demonstrating Responsibility, Respect, and Kindness and Safety at all times. We call this Viper Pride. I want every child to love school and want to be at school. Sierra Verde is a great school and I am proud to be a part of this wonderful learning community. Let’s make this a fantastic year!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Hamblen
