Weekly Blog

  • Week of 9/16/19

Posted by Rebecca Green on 9/15/2019

Our weekly Homework Packet is due Friday.

Many of us our shopping early for our Halloween costumes so please look over the included letter this week regarding costume requirements if your child plans on wearing their costume to our Fall Party on October 31st.

Please continue to work with your child on any letter sounds, lowercase letters, and uppercase letters that they do not know.  I would suggest that you make alphabet flashcards.

This week we are focusing on all the letters and sounds, especially the letter Aa.  The students should be able to recognize and reproduce the sound when they see the following letters in isolation and in words:  c, o, a, d, g, m, l, h, t, i, j, k, p, u, b, r, f, n, e. This week your child will learn how to properly write the uppercase and lowercase Aa.  You may want to practice this skill at home.  Remember to have them hold their pencil properly and begin at the top or the middle, never at the bottom.  This week your child will learn the high-frequency words:  have, is and they should also be able to recognize the following high-frequency words:  I, am, the, little, to, a. The students were given their first assessment on the 6 high-frequency words.  Please look over their results and help them practice the words that they missed.  I would recommend that with any skill that your child is working on that you have flashcards for them to use daily for a quick practice.  We are working with numbers 8-10 in different configurations.  All students are expected to write their first names with a capital letter followed by lowercase letters.  In writing we are focusing on writing a sentence using our high-frequency words and then initial sounds of unknown words (ex:  I l to go to the p. = I like to go to the park.)
