B.S. Kinesiology M.Ed. Secondary Education TAP Certified Mentor Teacher/Evaluator 2015 DVEA Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Laura Mills
After graduating from Sheridan High School in Wyoming, I moved to sunny Tempe, AZ to become a Sun Devil, and earned a Kinesiology B.S. (thinking I wanted to by a Physical Therapist) in 2007. I worked in Special Event Management and Security in college and transitioned to full time with a company to produce ASU, AZ Cards, FBR Open and the 2008 Super Bowl the following year.
After a year of fast pace and high stress, I knew I needed a more fulflilling career, so I entered an Internship with Masters and Certification program from ASU/DVUSD and began teaching at Deer Valley Middle School. While at DVMS, I worked as a Mentor teacher performing evaluations, planning professional development and seeking out innovative ways to enhance teacher instruction and student acheivement. To crown my time at DVMS, I was nominated for and recieved the DVEA Teacher of the Year award in May 2015.
While working in special events, I met my wonderful husband Clint, who still works producing those events we all love to attend. 12 years ago, we adopted my most-perfect-and-wonderful son Quigley (some people call him a dog) and 9 years ago had my silly, energetic daughter Macey. In March 2017, our crew grew by one when we added our little boy Bowen. In 2018, our pet rats Seymour and Jasper joined the mix and Spring 2020 we got 6 chickens making a total of 13 critters that live in my house and love to make cameos in our learning.
I am 100% committed to positively impacting students' academic abilities and love of science, expending countless hours (and sometimes dollars) to provide the best possible experiences that I can for every student!
Thank you for sharing your children with me for a year:)
Here's to a great 2020-2021!
