My name is Katie Wahlstrom and I am the Special Education Strategist and Special Education Teacher. This will be my fifteenth year of classroom teaching. I have always known I was going to be a teacher, the first day of kindergarten I came home and told my mom I would be a teacher. As I grew up I had a growing interest in special education. I received my Bachelors in Special Education from ASU before beginning my teaching career. I have received my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from GCU in May of 2020. I am a Highly Qualified Certified Teacher in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education K-12, and Elementary Education 1-8. My first 3 years were spent teaching a self-contained emotional disabilities and behavioral disorder classroom. I loved it! The kids were great and I miss it very much. When my husband and I moved across town from Maricopa to Surprise I was lucky enough to start teaching Developmental Preschool for Deer Valley. My first two years were at O'Connor High School until my classroom relocated to a larger room at Terramar. I taught developmental preschool for 11 years, and this is my second year as a half time special education teacher and half time SES. Terramar is a great school and I enjoy being a part of the team here! I was one of recipients of Teacher of the Year for Deer Valley Unified School District for the 2014-2015 school year. Before I was a classroom teacher I did in home Habilitation Therapy for children with Autism, and before that I worked at a preschool/private school for children with social and emotional disabilities. Working with children with special needs has been such a pleasure.

I have 4 children who also attend Terramar. My son, Zane, he is in 7th grade. My daughter, Addilyn, is in the 5th grade! My daughter, Tinsley is in 2nd grade. My youngest daughter, Everlee is in 1st grade. They have grown up so fast and time has gone very quickly! I enjoyed spending my days with them over the summer. My husband, Shaun, and I have enjoyed 14 years of marriage and look forward to many many more! I enjoy cooking dinner, but also enjoy going out to eat. Our favorite spots are Chick fil a, Culvers, Chipotle and Olive Garden. I am trying to only drink water, and I do not drink coffee, Pepsi is my coffee! I enjoy chocolate candy and try not to buy it otherwise it is gone way too quickly. Most of all I enjoy spending time with my family, DYI projects, volunteering with my church and teaching your children. Thank you for entrusting me with your child! I look forward to another wonderful year at Terramar!
