Mrs. Allen's Bio

I am looking forward to starting my 13th year here at Village Meadows Elementary as one of the Reading Specialists.  I lived and taught reading in Minnesota until I moved to Phoenix back in 1998. (I traded in the sub-zero temps for the sun and heat!)  I graduated from St. Olaf College in MN with a BA in Public Speaking/Communication and then graduated with an Elementary Education degree from the University of MN. After staying home to care for my children for 6 years, I went back to the University of Phoenix and received my Reading Specialist endorsement. I have now been teaching in the DVUSD district for 14 years.
My husband and I own an Arabian horse ranch in the Desert Hills area.  We love raising Arabian horses and competing at the annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show in February. Other than horses, I also have a black lab mix dog named Harley.
My oldest daughter, Alisha, is a registered nurse working in Phoenix; my son, Mitchell, is 25 and working as a baseball coach with multiple teams for the Scottsdale Swarm; and my youngest daughter, Avery, 21, will be a senior at NAU, works part-time, and is majoring in Interior Design.
