    Optional Student Support Times

    • If students have a simple question during the day, they should send us a Canvas message using their Inbox (we will teach them how to do this).  We will respond as soon as we can.
    • The 5th grade teachers will also be available through Zoom for independent and small-group support Monday-Thursday.  Zoom support is only available on Fridays in the morning.
    • It is not a requirement that students join a Zoom during this time, but if they need help with an assignment or have a course question, they can meet with teachers between the following times.
    • They are not required to stay on the Zoom call the whole time (EX: if they get a question answered in 2 minutes, they can hop off and get back to work):

    12:45-1:15

    • Mrs. Copenhaver - Math

    1:15-1:45

    • Mrs. Liguori - Social Studies & Writing assigned by Mrs. Liguori

    2:30-3:00

    • Mrs. Orr - English Language Arts & Writing assigned by Mrs. Orr

    3:00-3:30

    • Mrs. Anderson - Science & Writing assigned by Mrs. Anderson

NOTE:  Student support teachers will also be creating small group Zoom times in the afternoon to support students with the following needs:

    • IEP support from Special Education/Speech
    • English Language

Student schedules will be available in PowerSchool in late July.  Reading and understanding the schedule can be confusing, especially when it comes to how the special area schedule works.  Teachers will take time on the first day of school to clarify the schedule.  It is suggested that you print a copy of your schedule and bring it on the first day.

8:40     1st bell - students should report to class

    8:45     school bell - homeroom/announcements/1st rotation

10:00   RTI (SAGE Reading begins at 9:50)

    10:30   Specials

    11:15   Lunch

    12:00   2nd rotation (SAGE Math)

    1:05     3rd rotation

    2:10     Recess

    2:30     4th rotation

    3:30     Dismissal

*There will be variations of this schedule on Fridays depending on whether it is a full day or an early release day.

*5th grade students have a "homeroom" teacher for the purpose of morning announcements and attendance only, however, all 5th grade students spend equal amounts of time in each of their 4 content classes.

(Exceptions: SAGE Reading students spend a majority of the ELA block with Mrs. Orr but leave shortly before class is over to go to SAGE with Mrs. Eberhardt.  While they are in Mrs. Orr's class, they will be participating in reading and writing tasks, but no additional work will be assigned for class time they miss due to leaving for SAGE.  In other words, SAGE students will not receive "extra" work just because they are in SAGE and have to leave class early.  SAGE Math students will not report to Mrs. Copenhaver's class at all unless there are special circumstances.  For example, if SAGE is canceled, SAGE students might report to Mrs. Copenhaver's room for that day.)

    RTI

    • RTI stands for Response to Intervention.  In 5th grade, we will have a daily RTI time for about 30 minutes.
    • Students will be assigned an RTI placement based on an academic need.  Some students will need reading or math support while others need project-based learning or challenge work.
    • RTI groups can switch as needed so that we can best support the needs of our students.
    • We will clarify and explain the purpose and expectations of each RTI placement when we get started.

    Read 180

    • Read 180 is an intervention for students who demonstrate a need for strategic reading support.
    • Students who are in Read 180 will be notified at the beginning of the year.
    • This intervention takes place during our RTI time, and students in Read 180 will receive this intervention from Mrs. Orr.

    SAGE

    • Students who are in SAGE Reading will report to Mrs. Orr for Reading/ELA each day, as they will be doing integrated reading/writing tasks as well as general language and writing grades.  Since SAGE Reading takes place toward the end of the Reading/ELA class with Mrs. Orr, students in SAGE will be leaving Mrs. Orr's class a short time early each day.
    • Students who are in SAGE Math will report to Mrs. Eberhardt's math class and will not go to math with Mrs. Copenhaver.
    • More clarification on the SAGE schedule will be provided on the 1st day of school.  SAGE will not begin until the 2nd day of school.

The 2019-2020 5th grade daily schedule will be posted in August.
