Meet Mrs. Hartley
I want to Welcome you to the 6th Grade Math! My name is GayLynne Hartley and this will be my 16th year of teaching at Sunset Ridge Elementary School! The last 12 years I have taught 4th grade but this is my fourth year teaching 6th grade math. Math is my passion and I am so excited to get the opportunity to teach it! I love teaching and inspiring young minds to learn! We are going to have a fun filled year of learning!
I grew up in Illinois on a farm in a small town of 1000 called Winchester. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University in General Studies and Nursing. I worked as an open heart surgical nurse for 9 years but I had always dreamed of becoming a teacher! After my children were born I decided to be a substitute teacher in the Chicagoland area! I fell in love with teaching so I then decided to go back to school and get my teaching degree! We moved to Phoenix in 2003 and I decided to attend ASU to pursue my dream of teaching. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Since then I have become highly qualified to teach Math, Science, and English for middle school as well as finishing my gifted endorsement. I am currently pursuing my endeavor in getting my second Master's degree in Leadership Education to become a principal!
The one thing you will learn a lot about this year is my family. I have a wonderful husband of 26 years, Dan, and three beautiful children. I am an empty nester! My son, Brock, plays professinal baseball in the Pacific association League for the Sonoma Stompers in Sonoma, California ! Go Stompers! My daughter, Allye is pursuing her masters degree this year at Grambling State University in Louisiana! Go Tigers! Last but certainly not least is my daughter Mckinney, who will be a junior this year at NAU. Baseball and softball fields are my second home and I absolutely love to watch my kids play! We have many pets, two teacup Chihuahuas named Cooper and Prince, and many fish.I also have a grandpup Luna who is a Belgian Malinois. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, going to see movies, and I LOVE sports. I am an avid football fan as well as a die hard Cardinals baseball fan, and especially when my son and daughters are playing!
I love teaching and watching children develop into life long learners. I have very high expectations for my students!
I try to be very open and available to my students so that they have a safe learning enviroment! I also look forward to getting to know you and your family for a wonderful and successful school year! Feel free to contact me anytime!
