Degrees and Certifications:
I started playing piano when I was seven and then decided to join the school orchestra where I played string bass. I sang my first solo in second grade. However, I did not really realize that I had a talent for singing until I tried out for our school glee club in 8th grade and made it. That was a turning point for me. I continued singing through high school in chorus and ensemble groups.
I have been teaching or performing music in some capacity for twenty years. I majored in Music in college. I then furthered my education and became a Music Therapist working to design specific goals and programs for special needs children and adults. I worked as a therapist for ten years servicing children and their families. I finished my teaching certificate and started teaching in 2001. I have taught for eighteen years, 12 of those years have been in the Deer Valley Unified School District. I would say that music has been a journey in my life and a truly enriching one. I am fortunate to have had so many musical experiences and opportunities for growth. With my music therapy and music education background my goal is to educate children about music and to enhance their quality of life through music. Music can shape character and build a motivation for life long learning. All activities are designed by Arizona State Standards that enhance the National Music Standards. I look forward to working with each and every student over the course of each school year.
