We will begin the school year by building "Our Classroom Community" and discovering how citizens work together, cooperating for the good of the community, making it a better place for everyone.  We will discuss that
citizens have the rights and responsibilities to add to the culture of a
community in a positive way.  Together we will create a "Mission
    Statement" and a "Third G
    rade Constitution".
During the remainder of the first quarter we will study how our country is
made up of many people, of various backgrounds, who came together to
form a democracy.  We will discover how communities are alike and
different, are found all over the world, and depend on their citizens to participate in their government.  Each student will have the opportunity to interview a family member, learning about their family heritage and
ancestry.  Students will use a visual and/or technology when presenting
    their findings.
