Degrees and Certifications:
Hello Terramar Kindergarten Families!
I would like to welcome each of you to Kindergarten, and let you know a little about myself. I'm an Arizona native, and grew up in the central Phoenix area. I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. I hold an Early Childhood endorsement and SEI endorsement. I taught Kindergarten in Washington Elementary School District in Phoenix for 6 years, but put my professional life on hold for a few years to be at home with my children. I returned to the profession part-time in 2011, when I taught Extended Day Kindergarten in DVUSD for two years. I'm married to a great guy and have two boys. The youngest is attending the outstanding Mountain Ridge High School, and my oldest is in college. I enjoy reading, cooking, the beach, the forest, nature in general, Arizona sports teams, and any activity my boys are doing at any given time!
In Kindergarten we will learn reading, writing, spelling, math, science and social studies, all delivered in a child-centered, developmentally appropriate way. Examples include large and small group instruction, multi-sensory activities, hands-on learning (manipulatives), differentiated instruction, independent learning centers, and child-driven concepts of study. I believe that children learn best when they are seen as a valued and important part of the classroom environment, and receive a balanced, research-based curriculum tailored to their developmental needs. I work hard to make our classroom a safe and engaging place to be, and I seek lessons and learning activities that students not only learn from, but also enjoy. All this, plus a hefty dose of fun, singing, movement and dancing will assure a curriculum worthy of our children.
Homework and classroom newsletters will be sent home weekly in folders. Please check/empty folders daily.
Again, welcome! I'm so glad that your child will be a part of our Kindergarten class!
