Degrees and Certifications:
B.A. Fine Arts Masters in Education
Hello students, parents and guardians!
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Darlene Pope-Turner, or Mrs. Turner as my students refer to me. This is my fifth year at Stetson Hills Elementary and am both delighted and excited about teaching your child science this year! I previously taught third grade at Village meadows and then Stetson Hills before joining the fifth grade team three years ago. Before that I taught second and then third grade at the Osborn School District. While teaching in the Osborn School District, I was nominated for ELL (English Language Learner)Teacher of the Year (a statewide award) and was a semi-finalist. My education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York Institute of Technology and a Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Arizona State University.
I am originally from Long Island, New York. Although I grew up boating, fishing and going to the beach, I fell in love with the Sonoran desert when I came to Arizona on vacation with my family when I was 12. I relocated to our beautiful state in 1989 as a young adult and absolutely love the lifestyle. My husband and I have been married for 27 years and have a 21 year old daughter who was in the DVUSD since kindergarten (she attended Stetson Hills in Kindergarten and first grade). Our daughter graduated Boulder Creek High School in 2018 and is now a senior at Grand Canyon University. Where did the time go? We reside in New River with our three horses, two dogs and six chickens and one rooster.
In our spare time my daughter and I love to hit the beautiful trails on our horses Dusty Diamond and Jetty. As a family we love nature, animals, horseback riding, hiking and camping.
My goal as teacher is to inspire and motivate my students so they will become lifelong learners and independent thinkers. I strive to engage their eager minds by incorporating a variety of teaching techniques, enjoyable activities and making the lessons “game like” and fun. I strive to inspire your child to have an appreciation for science, ask questions, observe and understand much the science that is around them every day!
I look forward to meeting you all with great anticipation!
