•  Deer Valley Head Start Room 203

We have been very busy the past few weeks here in Head Start exploring the topic of nutrition and where our food comes from.  We learned a lot about the grocery store and the people that work there and we talked a lot about farmers and how important their job is for all of us.  We also learned a lot of fun facts about turkeys, like the red thing that hangs across the Tom turkey's beak is called a snood!

We have just begun to talk about "The Arts" and it has been a lot of fun so far!  We are learning not only about the art of painting/drawing but also sculpting with our play dough and bead floam and jewelry making with beads.  We have also been talking about the art of story telling and we have been retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears using puppets and reading many different variations of the story to compare and contrast.

Our next unit will be all about the season of winter and how the weather changes and effects how we dress, the activities we are able to do and we will touch on all the different holidays and celebrations that happen during the winter months.  We also talk about how the season effects the animals and that some animals prefer the cold and how they survive.

Be sure to check your child's backpack on a weekly basis, for any informational fliers or artwork that your child has completed.  Helping them clean out their papers is a great way to teach them organizational skills for all their future school years.

Please remember to send in a water bottle with your student each day, we are outside in the heat for about an hour each day and we are unable to use the drinking fountains at this time.

Our classroom does tend to get a little chilly, so if you could please send in a jacket to keep in their cubby it would be great!
