Mrs. Hartley

Welcome to SAGE math and ELA in the Las Brisas Gifted Services!

Meet Mrs. Hartley

I  want to Welcome you to the Sage Gifted Class! My name is GayLynne Hartley and this will be my 17th year of teaching but my 1st at Las Brisas Elementary  School! The last 12 years I have taught 4th grade but this is my sixth year teaching 6th grade math. Math is my passion and I am so excited to get the opportunity to teach it! I am aslo excited that I get to co-teach ELA. I have been a gifted cluster teacher for 3 years and in the walk-up to math model for gifted students. I love teaching and inspiring young minds to learn! We are going to have a fun filled year of learning!

I grew up in Illinois on a farm in a small town of 1000 called Winchester. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University in General Studies and Nursing. I worked as an open heart surgical nurse for 9 years but I had always dreamed of becoming a teacher! After my children were born I decided to be a substitute teacher in the Chicagoland area! I fell in love with teaching so I then decided to go back to school and get my teaching degree! We moved to Phoenix in 2003 and I decided to attend ASU to pursue my dream of teaching. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Since then I have become highly qualified to teach Math, Science, and English for middle school as well as finishing my gifted endorsement.  I am currently pursuing my endeavor in getting my second  Master's degree in Leadership Education to become a principal and will be doing my internship in the Fall!

The one thing you will learn a lot about this year is my family. I have a wonderful husband of 27 years, Dan, and three beautiful children. I am an empty nester! My son, Brock, plays professinal baseball in the Pacific association League for the Sonoma Stompers in Sonoma, California ! Go Stompers! My daughter, Allye is pursuing her masters degree this year at Grambling State University in Louisiana! Go Tigers!  Last but certainly not least is my daughter Mckinney, who will be a senior this year at NAU. Go Jacks! Baseball and softball fields are my second home and I absolutely love to watch my kids play!   We have many pets, two teacup Chihuahuas named Trinity and Prince, and many fish.I also have a grandpup Luna who is a Belgian Malinois. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, going to see movies, and I LOVE sports. I am an avid football fan as well as a die hard Cardinals baseball fan, and especially when my son and daughters are playing!

I love teaching and watching children develop into life long learners. I have very high expectations for my students! I was also won the prestigious award of being Teacher of the Year in 2017-2018.
I try to be very open and available to my students so that they have a safe learning  enviroment! I also look forward to getting to know you and your family for a wonderful and successful school year! Feel free to contact me anytime!
