It is so exciting to be returning for my sixth year at DVMS. This will be my 26th year of teaching and I still love kids and love what I do everyday! This my seventh year as a Service Coordinator in the Deer Valley district. In addition, this year is my fourth year as the DVMS Special Education Strategist (SES) where I will be able to guide our special education team to be the best that they can be! Prior to coming to DVUSD, I spent ten years of my career at Cottonwood Middle School in Cottonwood, Arizona. My philosophy on teaching and life is to never give up because you can do anything you set your mind to if you try:) Even teaching eighth graders, I have always started every school year reading The Little Engine That Could to all my classes. This book has been a constant in my own life when facing challenges. I still have former students who will contact me to tell me that thinking of the 'Little Engine' helped them through challenging events in their lives.
One of my greatest passions as an educator is Holocaust education. I am a fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. Through my work both in and out of the classroom on this topic, I was named Yavapai County Teacher of the Year in 2012. There are so many ways to connect events in our history with the teachings of good citizenship and the openness to accept others through strong moral character.
Family is my priority outside of school, I am married and have two sons and a precious new puppy named PoPo! We enjoy time with family and friends, traveling and I love to make jewelry and scrapbook in my free time.
Communication is the key to my partnership with staff, students, and parents at Deer Valley Middle School so please feel free to contact me if you need to discuss something to improve the success of your child.
Here's to an awesome 2020-2021 school year!
