We are looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled school year. Our plan for your child this year is to teach them to achieve new goals, discover, and learn not only our exciting new curriculum, but how to be self-reliant and responsible as well! We will be utilizing the Canvas learning platform and Zoom for our video classroom meetings during our remote learning. The Canvas platform is where all of classroom activities will be stored, so students will log into this single site for their courses. The Canvas platform allows for independent, self-paced work as well as to provide additional opportunities to demonstrate growth within the state standards and the IB MYP criterion. During our Zoom meetings we will be using interactive features such as whiteboards, breakout rooms for small group activities, chat box for responses, reaction icons for quick feedback, hand raising, and other tools that will create a very interact meeting time. When your student joins a Zoom meeting, they will be expected to follow proper Zoom etiquette: Logging into meetings on time with first and last name as your user name, cameras on with their face clearly in view, appropriately dressed, materials accessible and ready for learning, and microphones muted during whole class sessions unless they are called on to share, but unmuted when they are in break out rooms so they can contribute to the discussion. Their respectful behavior and participation expectations will be created in class and posted for a reminder to everyone of how we will work in Zoom Meetings. Please establish a quiet place for your student to work that will have minimal distractions for them, good lighting, and a comfortable seating.

You will then click off your video and mute yourself while you work on your classwork off-screen. (You can unmute to ask questions or guidance). You will turn on your video at the last 8 minutes of class and submit your class work. Classwork may be a lab, a project, CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) or practice. Supplementary information will be on Canvas.

    Adv. ELA
Welcome to Mrs. Sears’ 6th grade Advanced ELA. We will be utilizing the Junior Great Books curriculum. With this curriculum, students will learn how to have engaging discussions, search for evidence based answers, how to ask effective questions and the different question types. Along with these amazing stories, students will learn how to incorporate evidence into their writing. Writing is one of my favorite things to do and I will be teaching how to write effective essays within specific genres. Organizing your writing is an effective tool, so be prepared to discuss and utilize the different prewriting tools as well. I look forward to our future engaging discussions!

Humanities: Are you ready to go back in time? Mrs. Sears will take you back to the Stone Age, Ancient Greece, Ancient China, Ancient Rome and so much more! Students will learn about our ancient world history by engaging in class discussions and utilizing project based learning to gain a better understanding of how our world use to be.
Project based learning means hands-on learning and I feel this is where all students learn best. Some projects are simple and some are more complex STEM type projects. Either way, we will have fun learning together!
