• Welcome Second Grade Vipers!

    Dear Parents,

Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career!  Second grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning.  This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which skills are accelerated.  You will be amazed at just how much your child will grow this year.  During second grade, your child will learn and grow in the areas of reading and comprehending higher level books fluently, writing and researching, adding/subtracting within 100, and so much more.  I hope to make your child's second grade year a fun and exciting one and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling!

So much happens and is learned in second grade!  Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our classroom.  Here are some ways you can help:

*Celebrate your child's successes, no matter how small it may seem.  This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of his/her work!

*Look through your child's backpack & folder each day.  There will be important notes, graded work, tests, etc.  Please be sure the folder is returned to school with any notes for me the next school day.

*Read aloud with your child every day.  The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom.

I am looking forward to a very exciting and productive year in working with you and your child.  You are the most important person in your child’s life and I know if we work together, your child will have a very successful year.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child!     If  have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me any time throughout the school year at karen.perry@dvusd.org   Also, be sure to check the school website and our classroom website at https://www.dvusd.org/Page/14893 now and throughout the year for current information about our school and classroom happenings!

    Dear Boys and Girls!!

Welcome to second grade! I hope you are having a terrific summer. I can't wait to meet all of you!  We will have lots of fun reading, writing, and learning new things together. Do you know that you will have your own desk this year?

I have been busy preparing the classroom for August 2nd, our first day together. I know you will discover a lot of interesting and exciting things.  Your cubby is ready for you with your name on it too!

We will have desks in groups with materials and supplies.  However, you can also bring in your own pencil box with pencils, erasers, markers, and crayons.  What fun coloring and writing tools will you put in your desk?

Don’t forget, you can stop by to say hello and see where your new classroom will be on Thursday,  July 29th at 5pm.    You may bring your classroom supplies with you then also.  See you soon for the first day as a 2nd Grader!   It will be an exciting year of learning together and making new friends!

                                                                    Your new teacher,

                                                                    Mrs. K. Perry
