    The Gifted Services at Highland Lakes has reserved October 11-13, 2019 (Friday - Sunday) to take 5th and 6th grade Renaissance and SAGE students on a 3-day educational outdoor field trip to Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI), on Catalina Island, CA. CIMI provides high-quality, hands-on life and environmental science and learning experiences especially meaningful for advanced learners. The camp experience also gives gifted students an opportunity to develop positive peer relationships and self-image. Students will travel by charter bus the morning of Friday (12:30 AM), October 11th to arrive by 8:30 AM at the Long Beach dock to ferry to CIMI Toyon Bay.  We will return to Phoenix at approximately 9:00 PM Sunday October 13th.     The cost for the CIMI field trip will be $400 per student. Please remember that an easy way to pay for your student’s trip is through an Arizona Tax Credit donation to Highland Lakes CIMI field trip. No student will be denied participation on the trip due to financial hardship. Please contact us as needed.

    If your student will be attending this field trip we ask that you:

     

    1. Complete the attached Highland Lakes field trip permission form and return to school by Monday August 12, 2019. This may be submitted via attachment to email. This is your commitment to attend the field trip.

    2. Submit the payment of $400 by August 31 2019. Please make this payment online if using tax credit. See the directions for making an online payments.

    3. Complete and return the CIMI Student Health Form

    4. Complete the Medication Form if needed.

       

    5. During our drive home on Sunday night, we will make a dinner/snack stop. Please send $15 to $20 in a sealed envelope with your child’s name clearly written on the front. This envelope will be returned to your student to purchase dinner.

    6. Complete and return the Chaperone application if interested. We have a limited number of positions for this trip due to restrictions by CIMI: and so, we appreciate your understanding that we will only be able to select a few individuals (see our preferred qualifications).Chaperone applications are due by Monday, August 12 2019. All applicants will be notified after final selection.
