Testing DVUSD Students
Deer Valley identifies students for placement into gifted programs based on identification from a state-approved gifted assessment, using age-level norms. Students are identified in the areas of Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal reasoning. Deer Valley uses the following assessments to place students into one or more gifted programs: Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (KABC-II NU), Naglieri Noverbal Abilities Test (NNAT3), Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT), and Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). We honor parents requests for gifted testing but recommend that parents first read Characteristics of Gifted Students. For more information about the testing process, including registration, visit DVUSD's Gifted Services page.Testing Students Not Enrolled in a DVUSD School, Outside Testing, and/or Students New to DVUSD, please visit the DVUSD Gifted Service page.
What If Your Child Does Not Qualify for Gifted Services?
Test administration guidelines require that 12 months pass before the same test is administered again. Keep in mind that high grades and/or high scores on standardized achievement tests are not necessarily indicators that a student is gifted.
