Mrs. Newell

My name is Kelley Newell, and I am so excited for the opportunity to be working with your kindergarten in the Mandarin Immersion Program this year! My goal is to make our year together one packed full of fond memories, new friendships, meaningful connections to learning, plenty of adventure and lots of celebrations!  Guided by the Arizona College and Career Readiness standards, we will spend this year laying the foundation of learning for your child's future success in school and in life!  As your child's teacher I will guide, encourage, and empower your child every step of the way!  I hope to instill a strong sense of self-worth and love of learning to last a lifetime!

This will be my 14th year teaching at GP.  I am excited to be teaching kindergarten again with an awesome veteran teacher, Laura Tapp, as well as, our Mandarin teaching partner, Wei Song.  Together we will collaborate to create meaningful, engaging lessons that produce high academic achievement!

I earned my BS from Angelo State University in Texas.  You may notice that I brought my Southern drawl with me!  I hold an Elementary teaching certificate with Early Childhood and SEI endorsements.  A several years ago, I had an amazing opportunity to travel to China with a team of other educators to learn about their beautiful country, their education system, and visit our sister school!  It was an experience I will never forget!

I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Ed Newell!  We have two fabulous young adult children!  Our daughter, Lauren, is an ASU graduate!  She and her husband, Chris, live in Northern California where he works for Apple. They have two precious children, Truett and Elle, making me an extremely proud Grandma!  Our son, Weston is a graduate of The University of LaVerne in California and has his MBA from Arizona State!  He and his bride, Ashton, recently moved back to the Phoenix area where he works for PWC!

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share my days with your child!
