The "100 Club"
This year your child has the opportunity to be a member of our classroom “100 Club”! Students earn their way into the optional club, your child will need to completely read 100 books during the course of the school year. Books read during school hours do not count. Books that count are 100 books they read at home or during their own free time in school. In May, we will have a celebration for students who have made it into the club! Your child can borrow books from the school and public library or read their own books at home. You and your child can read the books together (taking turns), they can read orally to you or a sibling or they can read by themselves. I would love for you to do a combination of these things – this way your child is hearing you read fluently, they are practicing reading to you, they are working on their own independent reading and you will get to spend some quality time together too! Your child will keep a Reading Log in their BOBCAT Notebook in a sheet protector. Please help them write down the titles of the books they read…just make sure they are in the correct spots as there are 15 different types of books that they must read and then 85 of their own choosing. Your child can become a Bronze member with 50-75 books, a Silver member with 76-99 books or a Gold member by completing all 100 books. However, the 15 different types of books must be read for each level. I will be posting updates to each level as the year progresses. I am very excited about this new, optional way to encourage reading outside of the classroom. Thank you for helping your child become a great reader this year!
