Dear Stetson Hills Families,
Welcome back for the 2020-2021 school year. For those of you who are new to the Stallion community, I am pleased to introduce myself as your principal. I am entering my 19th year in education, and my fourth year as principal of Stetson Hills School. I’m joined by Mrs. Nicole Johnson as Assistant Principal. Together we are thrilled to be your administrative team!
This year promises to be the most unique one yet, as we prepare to go online for all students K-8 until October 9. To review, Deer Valley is offering two options for academic learning this fall:
1. On Campus (in a virtual format until October 9)- Students will be enrolled at Stetson Hills. They will receive instruction for their new grade level online from a Stetson Hills teacher until October 9. They will return to the building on October 14 and continue learning with the same teacher(s) they had while online. Safety protocols will be put in place when the campus re-opens. The safety measures are in the process of being finalized in accordance with CDC guidelines, and will be communicated at a later date.
2. Online (full time)-Students will be registered as a student of the Deer Valley Online Academy and be assigned a certified teacher from that school for the semester or for the entire school year. This option is best for parents who either need a flexible student schedule, or parents who intend to have their child remain in an online environment even after the building reopens. More information can be found at www.dvusd.org/OnlineAcademy. If you are selecting the Deer Valley Online Academy, you may register your child at www.dvusd.org/gosignmeup.
Our school office opens Wednesday, July 22 7:30-4:30. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions. You are welcome to come in to our office in person if you do not feel your question or concern can be addressed over the phone. We will be practicing social distancing for all in-person meetings, and require all of our visitors to wear a mask. We thank you in advance for helping to keep our community safe!
As I mentioned, this school year will be unprecedented. Please know that the teachers and staff would love nothing more than to welcome our Stallions back to learning in person. It is more important, however, that we do this in the safest environment possible. We are committed to continue providing #Extraordinary learning experiences whether online or in-person. Our programs include a continuum of gifted services (pull out SAGE as well as self-contained “cohort” and “cluster” classrooms), and daily special area classes which include art, general music, band grades 4-8, choir grades 5-8, and a STEM technology class where students can program their own 3-D printer models! When it becomes safe to do so, we offer after school athletics in grades 7 and 8, and before and after school clubs throughout the school year. Social emotional learning is critical as well. Stetson Hills participates in the All Things EQ program which emphasizes emotional intelligence (EQ) as well as academic intelligence (IQ). Parents, please make sure you sign up for the weekly All Things EQ email so you can incorporate the mottos and lessons at home. We are also pleased to announce that Stetson Hills is now a 1 to 1 device school, meaning there are enough computers and Ipads for each student in every class! Additional information will be provided regarding technology distribution which will occur during the week of July 27. All families may pick up a device for each of your children during your scheduled time whether you enroll in the Deer Valley Online Academy, or remain at Stetson Hills.
We will continue to communicate important information as it becomes available. Remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and the DVUSD App for regular updates. It’s going to be a great year, because no matter what, we are #StallionsStrong!
