• Start the DV Online Learning Program's semester orientation during the week prior to class starting. Even if you have previously taken classes with Deer Valley's Online Program, completing the semester's student orientation with 75% or better is required. However, you only have to do the orientation once per semester, regardless of how many classes you have signed up for. When classes start you will submit the screen print of your orientation grade and move forward with the actual class you signed up to take.

Check the DV Online Learning Program website homepage for the orientation link. You will be prompted to enroll in the course (DVUSD students, use your computer login credentials; out-of district students, contact the DV Online Learning Program office for your account information).

  • The online system we use for classes in the DV Online Learning Program is Canvas - this is the same system used throughout DVUSD. While you can reach me via email at michelle.coots@dvusd.org, communications once class begins should be done in Canvas.

This platform provides a central place for teachers to collect and deliver content. It also connects students to digital resources and materials and allows students the opportunity to virtually collaborate.

Here are just a few features of Canvas:

    • Communication tools for discussions, updates, and student support
    • Several options for content and assignments
    • Integrates external resources and apps
    • Functionality on a variety of devices

If you have not used Canvas yet, it's okay. Canvas is really easy to learn and you will get an introduction to it as you complete the DV Online Learning Program student orientation. The orientation course should be available next week; but, DVUSD students can already login, click around, add a profile picture to your account, and customize notification settings. Out of district students will be able to login once the DV Online Learning Program sets up your account and emails you the details. Now and throughout the course, you can also check out these help guides from Canvas: Student Parent.

Login to Canvas online or with the Canvas app (iOs/Android).

Parents can also login to Canvas to observe classes and student progress. Parents even have their very own app: Canvas Parent.
