Degrees and Certifications:
AA fine arts Level 1 Harley Davidson Technician BFA Painting Standard Prek-12 art Teacher certification
Welcome to Mr. Hewlett's art class! Its been a long road but now I'm home! After 38 years, I have returned to Sunrise Elementary. I was a student here from 1981 to 84, 1st grade to fourth. Being that I found my love for art here, I feel it absolutely amazing that I have benn given the chance to give back what my art teacher did for me, to ignite a love for art that will allow for greater success, confidence, and happiness in life.
I graduated artist of the year at Greenway High School then went on to get my AA in fine arts at Glendale Community College. After that, I went to ASU and studied art education and painting. I took a break to have two daughters, Jocelyn and Phaedra and worked in the same restaurant for 21 years, bartending and then managing. Needing a change, I decided to go to MMI and get an entry level certification to work on Harley Davidsons. In 2016, 16 years later, I decided to go back to ASU and get my BFA in painting. I landed a position here in 2017, recieved my certification in the summer of 2019, and now I'm ready to focus on awesome new engaging art lessons to increase our little lions' creativity!
I love painting and art hisory. I tend to paint in surrealistic themes. I love figure painting and prefer finearts to grafic or commercial art. I have experience with metal sculpting but will focus more on clay and will try to expose my students to more clay projects. I love motorcycles and playing the drums. I began playing the drums from my early teens and was in bands from my junior year in high school, playing in the famous South by Southwest music festval in Austin, in 99.
I love teaching, I am very happy that I can come back to this school to create and share new experiences with its chldren; to show them that they can, through creativity, accomplish anything they set their minds on!
