Welcome to 1st Grade!
Meet Mrs. Tewers
My name is Mrs. Jessica Tewers. This is my eleventh-year teaching First Grade and my ninth year at Sunset Ridge. I have always had a passion for teaching. I enjoy watching every step of the learning process, especially when a child learns to read. I can't wait to get to know each and every one of our students this year and take them through the next adventure in their life. Kim Leubner and I are getting the opportunity to job share, which will allow us to be home with our growing families. I am more than looking forward to this amazing opportunity. When I am not being a teacher, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Mickee and I have 3 growing boys. Our oldest son, Brody, will be in 8th grade. Troy, our middle, will be starting 3rd grade. Nixon, our youngest, will be in kindergarten this year. We are a baseball family, so when we are not at the batting cage, baseball field or baseball game, we are playing some kind of baseball at home. They definitely keep us busy and with three active boys we don’t have much “free” time.
Meet Mrs. Leubner
Welcome to 1st grade! My name is Kim Leubner and I am so excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this year alongside one of my best friends, Mrs. Tewers. I have 13 years of teaching experience in kindergarten, first grade and third grade. I took a year off of teaching last year to be more present in my children’s life and spend some quality time with them and I am now ready to be back in the classroom with my students, doing what I love! I feel very fortunate to be able to have a healthy balance of home life and work life in my job share position and am so excited to share this year with you and your child! At home, I have a husband, Jason, and 2 children, Harper and Hudson, who are in 3rd grade and pre-k in the Deer Valley district. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking and reading! I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together!
We are both responsible for all areas of the curriculum, as well as grading, and parental communication. We are lesson planning together to ensure that all state standards are met and that we meet each student's individual need. We will be dividing our schedule in the following ways: One teacher will teach Monday, Tuesday and Friday one week while the other teacher will teach Wednesday and Thursday. This schedule will rotate each week. We are flexible with this schedule to decrease the amount of substitute teachers needed in the school year. We look forward to a new school year where we are able to build a strong classroom environment with high expectations, character, and community. Our classroom will work together as a TEAM because Together Everyone Achieves More. Our classroom will be a place where all students feel safe, welcomed, challenged, and important. Let's make this a great year!
