Mr. Fike's Bio

Mr. Fike
  • Mr. Fike was born and raised in Arizona, and attended DVUSD schools for all of his primary and secondary school. His first instrument was the saxophone, which he started playing in the fifth grade. In high school, he enjoyed being a part of the marching and concert bands, as well as participating in school musicals, plays, and student government. While in high school, Mr. Fike was the 1st Chair Alto Saxophone player in the Arizona-State Band three years in a row.

Mr. Fike attended Northern Arizona University for 4 years, where he studied Music Education and Saxophone Performance. While there, he was an officer of the National Association for Music Educators collegiate chapter, and helped organize community events like the "Instrument Petting Zoo" and National Music in our Schools Month. His saxophone studies helped him win the NAU Concerto Competition his Junior Year, and he performed as a featured soloist with the NAU Symphony Orchestra twice.

In 2016, Mr. Fike began his student teaching at Terramar Elementary School, and finished his placement at Boulder Creek High School. While student teaching, he was awarded the "Outstanding Graduating Student in Bachelor of Music Education" award by the NAU School of Music. In December, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. In addition to his work at his home school of Sierra Verde STEM Academy, Mr. Fike is also on the staff of the Sandra Day O'Connor High School Marching band as the Woodwind Instructor. . He plays both classical and jazz saxophone gigs around the greater Phoenix Area with the Tempe Winds and Arizona Wind Ensemble.

Mr. Fike currently resides in North Phoenix with his dogs, Callie and Lily, his cat, Leonard, and his bird, DeeDee. He loves to play chess, read or watch a good science fiction story, and play video games with his college friends who now live all over the country. His favorite instrument is still saxophone, but he loves learning new instruments as much as possible. One of his dreams is to be a professional conductor/composer and direct either movie scores or pit orchestras for Broadway musicals. Of course, his greatest love is teaching young students, and exposing them to the incredible power of Music to open our eyes, build connections, enbrace our hearts, and feed our minds.
