Welcome to FLL @ Canyon Springs!
FLL is First Lego League competition club at Canyon Springs. This club is open to all students grade 6-8th. Students will work on researching a real world topic, creating a presentation, learn how to program with mindstorm robots, and be a part of a team. The most important part of this club is working as a team as it will impact all areas. The competition is comprised of several parts- research, teamwork, and robotics. The first 2 weeks of FLL club, students will learn about FLL core values and participate in all aspects of FLL. There is a fee for this club in order to purchase robots, competition fees, and the competition practice board, information will be given out at the informational meeting Thursday, September 2nd, 2021. The club meets 2 days a week where students work on the core values of FLL-
- Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
- Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
- Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
- Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
- Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
- Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
What is FLL?
Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, grades 6-8**) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
