Welcome to 4th grade! It is going to be a "Llama-zing" year, full of fun learning experiences! In reading, we will learn to read closely and to respond to text using Thinking Maps and the writing process. We will explore theme, main idea and key details, and will compare and contrast using information from multiple texts. We will be completing a 20 book challenge and will create products based on the texts we’ve read. In math we will use mental math strategies, hands-on activities and problems solving to strengthen and build our number sense. We will use the eight mathematical practices including, persevering through problems solving, modeling with mathematics and using the appropriate tools strategically. We will use the four operations to solve problems, we will dig deeper into fractions, and we will learn the relationship between fractions and decimals. In science we will continue to focus on the scientific method and will complete investigations to understand the formation of landforms, magnets and electricity, water, and environments. Finally, in social studies we will explore Arizona and its fascinating history! In our class we will work cooperatively with our peers and maintain a growth mindset.
