Mrs. McCormick

Hello and welcome to First Grade!

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer break with your family. I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about myself and express how excited I am to be your child's teacher this year!

My name is Trish McCormick and my family relocated here to Phoenix from Modesto, CA about a year and a half ago. I feel especially lucky because my side of the family lives here and I am enjoying spending more time with them. In addition, my in laws just moved here as well over the summer!

We have two sons, Austin and Mason. Austin is 27, engaged to be married in October, still lives in CA where he is a service coordinator for children with special needs and teaches classes at his church’s school of ministry. Mason is 23, earned a degree in Biblical Studies from GCU, works at Life Way Christian Bookstore in Mesa and is completing an internship at Bethany Bible Church.

We are huge dog lovers! Daisy Mae Puddin’ Tater (the kids chose her name) is a 12 year old Llhasa Apso and Winston (Winnie) is a wild West Highland terrier mix that we rescued and believe is about 10. We also are big baseball fans and love our San Francisco Giants! We also enjoy antique stores and being outdoors.

This will be my 21st year in education. I have many years of experience teaching kindergarten, first grade, reading intervention and was an English Language Development/Literacy Specialist, spending my time working with small groups of English Language learners and children needing extra support with reading and writing in grades K-5.

I am looking forward to working with your first grader and making this a year of growth and achievement! In addition to academics, I will also be spending a good deal of time on social skills, kindness, compassion and developing independence.

Please feel free to come meet with me anytime you have a question or concern. It is so important that we work together as a team to help your child make the most of this year. I enjoy getting to know families and hope that you will feel welcome in the classroom and a valued part of your child’s education. I encourage you to consider volunteering in the classroom as well as becoming involved in the PTSO. My goal is to build strong, positive relationships with you as well as your child!
