• 4th Grade Pre-Band

An integral part of the Academy's curriculum is the Fourth Grade Instrumental Exploratory program. All Terramar fourth graders will have a full year of hands-on instrumental training with one quarter each on the clarinet, flute, percussion and trumpet. We have a terrific time enjoying the beautiful sounds we produce!!

The students will learn musical notation and basic theory as they learn the basics of each instrument. At the end of the year, those students wishing to participate in band in fifth grade will have a specific instrument recommended to them based on their performance in the exploratory classes. This year-long process helps to assure the student's success in beginning band by combining a solid foundation of notation reading and matching the child with the instrument most suited to them.

Throughout the course of the year, we will also be learning songs and dances that showcase our great state of Arizona.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

    Mouthpiece Sanitation

Since multiple classes are using the instruments, there will be, by necessity, sharing of mouthpieces. This is to let you know that each mouthpiece will be sanitized prior to each student’s use using strict protocols set up by our district health staff. Your child will be using a clean and germ-free mouthpiece in class every time.

Every mouthpiece will be sanitized and rinsed after each use. The district has been using this procedure for the years that this music delivery program has been tested, and no student has become ill sharing disinfected mouthpieces. We will follow the same protocol when we play flute and clarinet later in the year.

As a further precaution, students with cold symptoms will not use the instruments while any symptoms are present.

As a parent myself I would want you to know that I do not take your child’s health lightly!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
