Mrs. Messina

I am very excited to be your 3rd grade teacher this year! Let me introduce myself . . .

I can hardly believe it, but this is my 30th year teaching!  I began my teaching career in the Deer Valley Unified School District teaching 5th grade for two years at Desert Winds (now known as Vista Peak).  I moved over to  Desert Sage in 1992 and taught 4th grade until last school year.  The opportunity arose for me to teach 3rd grade and be part of the Mandarin team.  I am really looking forward to this new challenge.

I earned my B.S. in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University in 1989 and completed my Masters degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 1993.  I later earned my Reading Endorsement through Ottawa University

I will be teaching 3rd grade ELA (Reading & Writing) as well as Social Studies.  ELA is my passion.  I especially enjoy literature, and I hope to instill a love for it in my students as well.

My husband is a high school math teacher and baseball coach in the PV district.  We have two grown children.  Our daughter and son-in-law live in the valley, and she is an Occupational Therapist here in DVUSD.  Our son recently graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point and is a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
