- Deer Valley Unified School District
- Essential Academic & Social Behaviors
-
Every DVUSD campus promotes Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Leering (CASEL). SEL is defined as the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
CASEL has a widely used framework that identifies five core competencies in a successful SEL program: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
On this page you find links to a number of the SEL programs used in our district. DVUSD is currently evaluating all of programs in order to make strategic decisions about SEL in the next three-year period.
Also in an effort to promote a healthy environment in our schools, through a unique partnership with Southwest Behavioral Health, we have been able to place a full-time wellness counselor at each of our five high schools. The counselors carry a case load of students and are available for students to make an appointment if they are in distress.
