Hello students and parents!
Words simply cannot describe how much I've missed seeing everyone. I hope that you are all staying safe at home with your loved ones. The realization of how this school year will turn out has been its own kind of heartbreaking. Knowing there isn't a way to truly replace that very last day of school, eighth grade promotion, field day, or the eighth grade dance. Despite this, I've seen so many families finding time to do things together that they wouldn't normally get. We can still use this time to learn some meaningful science and participate as a class.
As we embark on this new journey of online learning together, I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you, seeing your work, and lovely faces.
We are going to be introducing some exciting new things! I will now be hosting Virtual Class Meetings twice a week on Zoom. Visit Canvas to access the link and find out what time the meetings are for your class. Virtual Class Meetings are a great opportunity to ask about assignments, clarify any questions you have, or just to see some familiar faces. I am also available by appointment, so just message to set one up!
Virtual Class Meetings per period:
2nd hr from 8-8:30 AM Tues/Thurs
4th hr from 8:30-9 AM Tues/Thurs
5th hr from 8:30-9 AM Mon/Wed
6th hr from 9-9:30 AM Tues/Thurs
7th hr from 9-9:30 AM Mon/Wed
Students are going to be assigned no more than two hours of work per class per week. Our lives are entirely different right now, and we as teachers have no intention of increasing the stress level of our students. If you are curious as to what your student will be working on in the coming weeks, all of the lesson plans for all middle school grade levels will be consolidated here: https://www.dvusd.org/homelearning Any and all assignments for science will also be found on Canvas every Monday morning, to be due the Friday of that week.
Additionally, I understand that with all of this time at home, students may be getting bored and antsy. I will be opening up Friday Tai Chi classes over zoom upon request :). Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art that focuses on flexibility, strength, balance and breathing. It?s great for everyone whether you're an athlete or not! This class is already open to my DSS students, but if you are interested in joining, please email me or message on Canvas for the invite code.
Lots of love,
