Bachelor's Degree Elementary Education Highly Qualified Middle School English Teacher

Mrs. Paugh

Hello Bobcat Families!

My name is Tracie Paugh and I am thrilled to be teaching 6th Grade ELA!  This school year will be my 17th year teaching and my second year with DVUSD at Sonoran Foothills.  I am happy to be able to have the privilege of working with you and your child this year.

In case you would like to know about my background...I was born and raised in Wisconsin--land of the cheese (and yes, I do love my cheese). I spent my early years residing in northern Wisconsin and my middle & high school years living in a town called Onalaska located on the Mississippi River.  I hung out with the "River Rats" and spent a lot of my free time fishing and boating on the river.  After high school, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Education.  When I graduated from college, I accepted a position as a camp counselor/outdoor educator in Colorado where I was able to spend my summer and fall months whitewater rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding and mentoring youth from all across the country.

In 2005, I took a leap of faith and moved to Arizona. Here I taught grades 5, 7&8 ELA, history, and yearbook in the Verde Valley.  My family then relocated to Prescott, Arizona where I was the lead 6th-8th grade ELA teacher.  In the spring of 2020 we moved to Anthem.  My family members are my husband Justin, daughter Leilah (12), and our sweet golden, Autumn.

In my free time I LOVE to spend quality time with my family.  We enjoy hiking all types of trails around Arizona.  We also love to camp near Flagstaff, Kayak around Watson & Lynx, and play pickleball at the ACC.  As you can see, if it's anything active and outdoors--we're game! When I am not planning engaging lessons for my students or spending time with my family, I enjoy reading from a plethora of genres--especially MYSTERY/SUSPENSE and running races--10ks and half marathons around the state.  I am currently training to run my first marathon and/or triathlon!

Enough about me!  I want you to know that I have a passion for teaching and believe that students come first!  I also understand that they need to learn what a growth mindset is and enjoy what they are learning along the way.  My years of experience have taught me that students need to be understood, respected, and have the ability to move and collaborate with their peers.  They also need to know the "why" and how their learning connects to the real-world in order to be fully engaged and take ownership of their education.

Furthermore, I am thrilled for this up-and-coming school year!  My biggest goal is that we work as a team in order to provide your student the best education.  Your child will be successful in ELA if he or she tries his or her best, has a growth mindset, and completes the assigned work.  Finally, I want you to know that it is important we keep the lines of communication open.  Please feel free to email me at any time at

Thank you for ALL you do!
