Mrs. Katie DeVito

Welcome to Third Grade at Legend Springs! I am overjoyed to be sharing the excitement of a new school year with your child. I have great expectations for this year and look forward to the many wonderful learning opportunities that we will experience together.

This is my fifteenth year of teaching. I started my career in the Paradise Valley Unified School District and taught most recently at Fireside Elementary School. I taught Kindergarten for eight years and First Grade for five- four of which were spent teaching in a self-contained gifted classroom. I absolutely love teaching young learners, and especially enjoy seeing their growth throughout the year. Their enthusiasm, humor, and excitement to learn make teaching so much fun. I moved to the Deer Valley School District in 2020 to be closer to home and spent one year at Copper Creek in Third Grade. I was so excited to make the move to Legend Springs, I have heard it is an amazing school!

I earned my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from ASU in 2007, and my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011, with an emphasis in Language and Literacy. I have a strong background in reading and writing instruction and enjoy using these strengths to support other subject areas as well. I have an early childhood endorsement, reading endorsement, and gifted endorsement.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I married my husband, Mike, in 2017.  We welcomed our first daughter, Lily, into our family in March of 2020. We are enjoying life as a new family of three. We are looking forward to sharing our love for camping, traveling, and outdoor adventures with Lily. We have a camper and love to explore our beautiful state every chance we get. We also have two sweet rescue pups who love to spend their days lounging around on the couch.

It is my intention to provide a challenging, yet nurturing learning environment. I hope to encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity on a daily basis. I will encourage students to take charge of their learning and feel proud of their accomplishments. Most importantly, I will make sure that students feel safe, supported, and encouraged each day. I am looking forward to a fabulous year!
