Ms. Kim Anderson

Kim Anderson has been an educator for 14 years. Collegiate soccer brought her to South Dakota, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern State University. She then returned to her hometown of Phoenix and began her teaching career in DVUSD. After seven years as a second-grade teacher, Kim decided to fulfill her dream of teaching abroad. She moved to Shenzhen, China, and spent the next two years teaching Kindergarten at a private international school. She learned so much about East Asian and Southeast Asian culture, teaching EL students and adapting to a foreign environment. She now knows what it feels like to live in a place where she did not know the language and had to connect and communicate without words. She also knows the joy one feels when they overcome this challenge and thrive. Kim applied this knowledge to her next four years as an EL Specialist and currently as the EL Learner CIAS. She has a passion for guiding children in gaining confidence and empowering them with academic and interpersonal tools to be most successful in school. She and her team are dedicated to developing quality curriculum, instruction and assessment for the EL department.

Kim is committed to supporting families as they navigate the unique challenges that come with learning multiple languages. If you should need support throughout your child’s academic journey, please do not hesitate to ask questions, give feedback, and contact her with anything for which she might be able to help. The EL Department is dedicated to serving their EL families.
