Hello Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.
My name is Debra Lawhon LPN or Nurse Debby. I’m very happy to welcome you and help you during your time at Barry Goldwater.
Let me just share a few things with you to help keep everyone safe and healthy this school year. First, I want to assure you that we are taking safety measures such as continuous cleaning of our facility throughout the day. Frequent handwashing is encouraged and hand sanitizer is available for use by students and staff.
For the Health Center the following information is of great importance.
First, KEEP YOUR STUDENT HOME IF THEY ARE ILL. No need to wait and see. If they are not feeling well have them stay home and call the attendance line with their absence. Please remember that diagnosis of an illness must be done by a physician. Please don’t send your student to school or to the nurse to decide if the student is sick and/or should remain at home. If in doubt, call your Physician.
If a student becomes ill at school, we will contact you immediately and we insist you pick up the student within one hour. We update our emergency information each year. Please ensure that all information on the Emergency sheet is current. This will ensure we can reach you if your child is sick or if there is an emergency.
Students who have any of the following symptoms should remain at home until resolved:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher
- Chills
- A recent loss of taste or smell
- Runny nose or nasal congestion
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- Headaches
- Sore throat
- Stomach ache
- Diarrhea
- Nausea and vomiting
If you suspect your student may have COVID-19 then please keep your student home and seek medical care for the student. We must all do our part to insure a safe and healthy school setting for students and staff. I'm available if you have any questions or concerns. You can email me at debra.lawhon@dvusd.org or call me at (623)445-3010.
We are here to assist and will work closely with you to ensure we remain safe and healthy. Have a great school year!
Warm Regards,
Debra Lawhon
